Background:

The Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL) is a network of 136 affiliated professors from over forty universities. Their   mission is to reduce poverty by ensuring that policy is informed by scientific evidence and this is done through research, policy outreach, and training across six regional offices worldwide, with headquarters at MIT, Chicago.

Requirement:

The “Bhubaneswar Urban Sanitation “ project sought to improve the physical infrastructure of community and public toilets, as well as to improve the associated management systems in order to ensure long-term maintenance.  In order to identify a solution that will produce the

most attractive, sustainable and hygienic alternatives to open defecation for slum residents, researchers will test a variety of complementary household-level interventions, such as discount coupons for shared facilities and varying the pricing structure (monthly passes vs. pay-per-use), through a mobile application.

What we did:

The Samman Application is a mobile based toilet app which is used to keep a track record of the payments made after using public toilets which helps the government to keep a track on the revenue. It also lets us find the reports of usage under every manager of a particular toilet. It even aims on easy usage for people with a reasonable cost. For implementing this new idea, an application was designed for people to register themselves and then they can use those toilets by making a discounted price payment for regular customers with family members involved. Assigned managers uses that app to register users  
Reports generated based on dates and no. of usage. It was converted into vernacular language to suit the needs of the local community people.
